Since August, 1995 : Associate Professor and Researcher,
Holding a Tenure Track position in the Center for
Computer Science - Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), Recife, Brazil.
This is one of the top five Computer Science Departments in Brazil. Research and industrial
projects in neural networks, pattern recognition, data mining, image and signal processing
and time-series prediction.
Since August, 1998 : Researcher Level 2-C of the Brazilian
Research Council (CNPq).
August, 1996 - December, 1998: Leader of the SAPRI Project. This
project involves the development of a system for the Brazilian Navy based on advanced
neural network, pattern
recognition and image processing techniques for automatic acquisition,
pre-processing and recognition of radar images. This is a joint project
being developed by five universities - UFPE, UNICAMP, UFRGS, USP, UFG and the
Brazilian Navy Research Institute (IPqM).
February, 1997 - January, 1998: Research Scientist/Engineer,
in association with the Center for Advanced Studies and Systems (CESAR),
Recife, Brazil. Designed and implemented
a neural network based credit scoring system prototype for a leading Brazilian
supermarket company.
Consultancy and Enterpreneurship
April, 2002 : INOVAR Entrepreneur. FINEP (Brazilian Financer for Studies and Projects).
Since January, 2000 : Business Advisor and Consultant for NeuroTech, a pioneer Brazilian
Company that develops advanced artificial intelligence solutions for credit risk assessment and data mining.
July 1998 - December 1999 : Senior Technical Consultant in Latin America
for the Neuristics Corporation, a firm based in Baltimore, US that develops
predictive models and decision-support solutions using hybrid artificial intelligence
for the financial services industry (and in particular for the credit card industry).
Since August, 1995 : Ad-hoc Technical Consultant for the Brazilian
Research Council (CNPq).
