      Main Description

The phase of pre-scoping starts with the pre-scoping meeting, where initially the stakeholders and their respective roles in the approach are identified. This decision is performed according to the profile analysis of each stakeholder and based on a pre-determined domains list to be analyzed in the product line.

In addition, in this meeting, the objectives which will guide the scoping are identified. This step aims to determine the objectives of all relevant stakeholders for the RiPLE-SC, considering that scoping is also a social activity and, therefore, should consider that different stakeholders have different views and objectives and, therefore, the participation of each relevant group of stakeholders is important for a better scoping result.

After defined the objectives, the organizational and operational contexts are determined. The organizational context is related with aspects as: structure and maturity of the organization. The operational context is related to operational constraints and of project.

The pre-scoping meeting helps the stakeholders to understand “what” are the expectations of the customers and organization in respect of the SPL. In addition, it is focused on group and in the communication face-to-face. Moreover, this task, also encourages the collaboration of the customers.

In the pre-scoping meeting, as well as in all RiPLE-SC, the participation of the customers is very important to drive the project team with the real customers’ needs.

      Steps
      Analyze Stakeholders
The choice of the stakeholders and their roles is performed according to the profile analysis of each stakeholder and based in the domains which will be analyzed in the product line. A stakeholder is someone who has a defined interest in the outcome of the project.
      Identify Objectives
The objectives are aspects which will guide the scope definition. In this step, the objectives of the organization and of the stakeholders which integrate the project are considered.
      Identify Organizational Context

The organizational context is related with aspects as: structure and maturity of the organization. The structure is an aspect that can influence the planning of meetings and workshops. In project teams with more than ten people or in distributed teams, dates for meetings are more difficult of determining, besides, some stakeholders, possibly, will not be present. Another aspect is the maturity, which can influence in the need of training, for example, in organizations which do not have knowledge consolidated on SPL.

      Identify Operational Context
The operational context is related with constraints operational and of project, and can involve resources, time, people, as soon as.
      Key Considerations
In this task is essential the participation of all stakeholders or of representants of each relevant group of stakeholders defined in the process.
